Well, based on my Golden Retriever's behavior this morning, looks like the ghost(s) have returned to our house again. She's spent the better part of the morning locked in a trance staring at either the Chinese wood panels we have hanging in our hallway or else at a spot on the wall in our office.
A bit of background information to frame all of this for you. Shelby is our 8 year old Golden Retriever. We adopted her when she was a little over a year old. Besides being totally "edgy" during thunderstorms and around the 4th of July fireworks season, all was quiet with her for the first year or so of our relationship.
About a year or so after we acquired her, she came sauntering into the master bedroom one day. Without warning one day , she hopped on the bed and sat facing the wall behind the headboard. On this wall we had 2 larger pictures of some classic Egyptian goddess and her pharaoh. Well, Shelby sat transfixed on these pictures for, like 10 minutes, not moving a muscle. I finally decided that enough was enough and swooshed her out of her trance and off the bed.
A couple of months later, the whole process was repeated again. This time instead of transfixing on the pictures, she picked a spot on the adjoining wall in the master bedroom to "have a conversation with the ghosts". Shortly after this last event, she again transfixed on another location in the master bedroom. This time it was the ceiling and, whatever was "up there" really got to her. Not only was she fixated on the location, but she was visibly shaking this time.
During the years, we've had additional "episodes" in our family room. We even had one corner of this room that she would not go to no matter what we tempted her with. These doggy sitings usually last a week or so then we resume our normal patterns of sleeping 22.5 hours a day and getting edgy with each passing thunderstorm that hits the area.
So, based on this morning's behavior, looks like we're in for fun times at our little haunted house for the next couple of weeks with Shelby. Oh joy, we'll finish up with this ghostly escapade and the thunderstorm season will be just about ready to start here in central Indiana!
